Banff National Park (originally known as Rocky Mountain Park), was established in 1885 after the discovery of a steaming pool, fed by sulfur springs, inside a cave discovered in 1883. This Park is the oldest in Canada. Banff is named for Banffshire, Scotland, the birthplace of CPR President George Stephen.
