Moraine Lake was discovered by Samuel Allan (who first called it Heejee) and Walter Wilcox while climbing Mt. Temple in 1893.
By climbing the rockpile (moraine, the origin of the name) you will have the famous "twenty dollar view". The peaks were featured on the twenty-dollar bill until 1989.
