The bow Valley Parkway was completed in 1920 and was the first road between Banff and Lake Louise. Today you also have the choice of taking the Trans-Canada. The 1A is a scenic road where you will have more chance to see wildlife then by taking the Highway 1.
Castle Mountain dominates the east side of both road. The mountain was first named in 1858. In 1946, the name was changed for Eisenhower in honor of Dwight D. Eisenhower. In 1979, the name Castle Mtn. was re-associated to the mountain and the tower was designated as Eisenhower Peak.
